Directory

The Directory section of the COSMOS Portal lets you browse the COSMOS/ORBIT user community. It provides searchable, filterable views of all registered users and organizations. This is useful for finding collaborators, checking which group a user belongs to, or looking up an organization's membership.

Access the Directory from the Directory section in the portal sidebar, which contains two pages: Users and Groups.

Users

The Users page displays a list of all registered COSMOS/ORBIT testbed users. Each entry shows:

  • Username — the user's testbed login name
  • Full Name — first and last name
  • Email — contact email address
  • Organization — the research group the user belongs to
  • Created — when the account was approved

Searching and Filtering

The Users page provides several ways to find specific users:

Alphabetical filter — click any letter (A-Z) at the top of the list to show only users whose last name starts with that letter. Click All to remove the filter.

Text search — type in the search box to filter users by name, username, or email. The filter applies in real time as you type, searching across all visible columns.

Column sorting — click any column header to sort the table by that column. Click again to reverse the sort order. For example, click Created to see the newest accounts first.

Results are paginated with 25 users per page. Navigation controls at the top and bottom of the table let you move between pages.

Groups

The Groups page displays all registered organizations (research groups, university departments, companies) on the COSMOS/ORBIT testbed. Each entry shows:

  • Group Name — the short identifier for the organization (e.g., winlab, columbia, nyu)
  • Organization — the full organization name (e.g., "Rutgers WINLAB", "Columbia University EE Department")
  • Members — the number of active members
  • PI — the Principal Investigator responsible for the group

Searching and Filtering

Similar to the Users page:

Alphabetical filter — filter groups by their first letter.

Text search — search by group name or full organization name.

Column sorting — sort by any column header.

Group Detail Page

Click on any group name to open its detail page, which shows:

  • Full organization name and description
  • PI (Principal Investigator) — the person who registered the group and is responsible for approving new member requests
  • Member list — all current members of the organization with their usernames, names, and account creation dates
  • Sub-groups — any Linux groups associated with the organization (used for file sharing and permissions on the testbed)

The group detail page is useful for verifying team membership, identifying a group's PI for collaboration requests, and understanding the organization's composition.

Privacy Note

User and group information displayed in the Directory is visible to all authenticated COSMOS/ORBIT users. Email addresses and phone numbers are shown to facilitate research collaboration. This information is not publicly accessible — you must be logged into the portal to view the Directory.
